Benefits of Applying Sunscreen

Sunscreen helps in the protection of the skin from the harmful UV rays from the sun. It consists of chemical and physical chemicals that keep off and absorb UV rays. Good quality sunscreens protect you from UVA and UVB rays. UVB rays cause skin discoloration and sunburns. When the skin is exposed to UVA rays, it gets aging spots and wrinkles. In addition, both the UVA and UVB rays cause cancer.

How it is Applied

Most people do not know that SPF’s rating is not measured by the power of the protection but the length of time that one spends in the sun. For example, using sunscreen with 60 SPF means that every 60 minutes you spend in the sun totals two minutes you spend in the sun without using protection.

Therefore, when planning to spend the day, apply a generous amount of sunscreen to your ears, neck, and face every morning, no matter the activities you want to accomplish. You should use the sunscreen 20 minutes before getting out in the sun and every two hours after staying in the sun. Also, ensure to check the expiry date of your sunscreen for it to be effective.
