Larry Baer was a fourth generation San Franciscan and grew up supporting the Giants as a fan, employee, shareholder and board member. As a child, Larry’s father would take the young Larry to each opening day as an employee of the San Francisco Chronicle.
As the guy in charge of the whole team, Larry Baer has brought stability, continuity, and confidence to a franchise that has seen its share of ups and downs over the years. “Larry is well-respected and well-liked both in the organization and throughout the industry,” says McDonough.
He is often quoted as saying, “Sports is an essential element of the global fabric, which is why it is so important to secure the Giants for San Francisco and create an organization that resonates with the community and the region for generations to come.” The Giants CEO believes the Giants must position itself as the preferred sports organization in the Bay Area, “not just for our city but for the entire region.”
“The SF Giants CEO is a genuinely thoughtful and committed leader. He seeks only what is best for the organization and the fans. He wants a team that will remain a wonderful part of the community and a part of civic life, forever. He is a tremendous sports business executive and community leader who sets the bar high for all others in the business,” says his predecessor, Peter Magowan.
Since 2014, Larry Baer’s Giants have been the most-watched sports team on TV in the Bay Area, according to Nielsen. In September, Giants games are the most-watched events on television every Saturday night, according to ratings released by the network.
Baer’s mandate is to ensure that the San Francisco Giants remain a recognized and respected member of the community, the Bay Area, and the national landscape. As a father, and as a grandfather of Giants CEO fans in every generation, Larry knows firsthand the value of family and traditions.
The Giants will remain the main focus of our lives, which we must protect at all costs. After the unprecedented winning spree of the 1990s, Baer took the Giants through several ownership changes to his current partnership with Peter Magowan. Read more about Larry Baer, here.
