Thor Halvorssen: Human Rights Activist

Thor Halvorssen, born Thor Leonardo Halvorssen, on March 9, 1976, in Venezuela. He is now known as both an advocate of human rights and a film producer. He specializes in such topics as slavery, human trafficking, dictatorships, and threats to democracy in general. He has spoken on the topic of human rights at such places as the New York City Junto, the American Enterprise Institute, the British parliament, Harvard Law School, and the United Nations Association in NYC. He has many and varied interests and involvements.

Thor Halvorssen is also the man who began the Oslo Freedom Forum. The OFF is a yearly meeting described by some a human rights festival. He is also the president of the famous Human Rights Foundation which is a group that is devoted to world freedom and human rights.

Additionally, Since the year 2009, he has been listed as the sponsor of the Czech Republic-based charitable organization known as the Children’s Peace Movement. It is known in some circles as the “Centipede Movement”. The organization works to establish and further “bilateral relations” between adolescents and children in several countries including Canada, the Czech Republic, Norway, Poland, and Slovakia with those in such war-torn countries as Iraq and Afghanistan.

Halvorssen is also the man behind the Moving Picture Institute. In May of 2010, he purchased the political Norwegian news publication Ny Tid. He has also been the recipient of several recognitions and awards.
